Show off your flair for design with quartz tiles
Everyone is familiar with the standard alternating pattern between black quartz tiles and White Quartz tiles for a floor design. Those people who want to try something different can get very creative with their floor layouts, even using just black and white quartz tiles.
Changing the Degree
One simple way of shaking up your floor design is to just change the angle of the tiles according to the perspective of the person walking into a room. Most tiles are laid out in a standard square grid pattern. Tilt your tiles by forty-five degrees and great a diagonal layout that alternates between black and white. Or stagger the placement of tiles from row to row, so that one row is inset compared to the next row and so on. This is a great way to create diagonal lines similar to Native American designs.
Changing the Size
Another way to spice up the design with those quartz tiles is to buy black quartz tiles that are larger than the white quartz tiles or vice versa. This takes a little work to plan out the design, but can create an interesting visual effect. The smaller tiles can wrap around the perimeter of the larger tiles for an interesting field of stars effect. Or you can alternate between rows of larger black tiles and smaller white tiles to create a banded effect. Mess around with the tiles until you find a size ratio that works well. Ideally, a certain number of small tiles should equal the length of one side of the larger tile. For instance, three small white tiles equal one side of the large black tile.
Changing the Pattern
You can also just change up the pattern used for the quartz tiles. Any number of patterns can be created using tiles in different layouts. Change the pattern to two white tiles and two black tiles to create larger squares of black and white on a floor. Alternate the first two tiles in each row to create a black and white rectangle style. Or create a layout of several white tiles with the occasional black tile interspersed between them for a scattered field effect.
The thing to remember is that you can have a lot of fun planning out your designs. Sit down with small squares of black and white paper and experiment with different patterns. Once you find a pattern you like you can sketch it in on a piece of grid paper to remember for later. When you get the tiles in, you’ll be able to show off your design skills and be the envy of your friends and neighbours.
